Mark Baker, CDT, Vident

Mark Baker completed his Dental Technicians Diploma in London, England graduating in 1977 with honors. Mark then moved to southern Germany from 1979-83, where he gained extensive tutoring and hands-on experience in fabricating fixed and removable prosthetic restorations within one of Germany’s most prestigious laboratories. In 1985 Mark immigrated to Sydney, Australia and opened his own successful aesthetic crown and bridge laboratory specializing in anterior restorations and implants.Mark is well versed on the importance of technical clinical communications and their implementations for successful case planning leading to ultimate patient satisfaction. He is a keen and avid supporter and member of many international study groups, including the “International Society For Dental Ceramics” and has tutored various hands-on crown and bridge courses and presentations throughout Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.Mark is now Product Marketing Manager for the shade communication at Vident, the North American distributor for Vita products.

Ed Flocken, CDT

Ed Flocken received his Associates Arts Degree in Dental Technology from Los Angeles City College and his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of California, Northridge, and completed post-graduate studies in dental science and advanced dental ceramics, at the International Dental Academy, Tokyo, Japan. He was Director of Education at APM/Sterngold, San Mateo, California where he taught Precision attachment dentistry, and later, moved to Amherst, New York to be senior technical IPS Empress Instructor at Ivoclar North America, where he pioneered “pressable ceramics” for nearly 10 years in North America. Ed has over thirty-five years of practical dental experience in all phases of dental technology and oral rehabilitation. He has been certified by the National Board for Certification for over 30 years in several areas of expertise and has lectured extensively to Universities, Institutions, study groups and laboratories throughout the United States, Canada, Central and South America, Asia, and Europe. He is a member of the Academy of Computerized Dentistry of North America and an Alliance member of the American College of Prosthodontics, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and the National Association of Dental Laboratories. Currently Ed owns and manages a small studio laboratory in Hendersonville, North Carolina, where he specializes in “All ceramic restorations” with an emphasis on 3D CAD/CAM technology. He continues to research, lecture and consult to leading dental companies and laboratories today. His experiences have given him a wide range of qualifications in restorative procedures.

Chuck Genco

Chuck Genco, an honor student graduate from the Naval School of Dental technology, has over 25 years of expertise in the dental arena. Chuck began his career in Western New York where he owned and operated a 40 plus technician full service dental lab. Chuck moved to Arizona in 2003 where he accepted a position as General Manager with Van Hook Dental Studio. He brought to Van Hook Dental Studio his expertise in the field of implantology and cosmetic reconstruction.
He lectures extensively on implants and dental materials. A leader in the area of immediate and early loading of dental implants Chuck continues his education with various implant systems as they develop. Chuck is a member of the Saguaro Study Club, Summit Study Club and a regular contributor for the Synergy Training Programs in the valley. Chuck is the former president of the Upstate New York Dental Laboratory Association. Chuck resides in Mesa, Arizona with his wife and five children.

Mark Hester, Hi-Tec


Mark Hester, BS received his Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Illinois University.  He is President of Hi-Tec Dental Products, Inc., a dental gypsum manufacturing company specializing in precision die materials.  The company was founded in 1994 and is located in Greenback, Tennessee. He has an extensive background in the formulation and manufacturing of dental gypsum materials. He lectures throughout the U.S. and Internationaly on dental materials and model and die techniques.

T.G. Hornischer Jr., CDT

T.G. Hornischer Jr., CDT is the recipient of the NADL’s Excellence in Education Award and Merit Award. He is the general manager of Centric Dental Laboratory, a 25 person a full service dental laboratory in Bullard, Texas.

T.G. earned his degree in Dental Technology in 1979, and received his National Board Certification in 1981. He has completed numerous implant and prosthetic courses, and conducts courses in the U.S., Canada and Europe. T.G. continues to author articles for several leading dental magazines. And is a member of  several prosthetic groups. T.G. also earned his Technologist designation from the NBC in 2006

Keith Miolen

Keith Miolen is quickly rising as a leading speaker in our industry since his introductory presentation at the University of Tennessee’s Mid-South Dental Conference in 2007. He has since lectured at various district meetings, study groups and venues, including The Chicago Mid-Winter Meeting and The Greater New York. Miolen, who recently was appointed to the Continuing Education Board of  The Dental Lab Association of New York has been published in both clinical and technical publications, which include Inside Dentistry, Dental Practice Solutions, The Journal of Dental Technology, and most  recent, Dental Lab Products Report.

Since appointing Miolen Technical Director and Director of Education, Craftsman Dental Laboratory revenues have increased 315 percent. Miolen is a strong advocate of digital technology and fabricates model free-impression free restorative prosthesis. His background of highly esthetic ceramics, implant and CAD / CAM technology combined with his techniques and teaching methods have made Keith a great resource for technicians and laboratories preparing for tomorrows industry.

Danny Roberts, CDT

Danny Roberts, CDT has 26 years experience. He started his dental laboratory career in 1983 and successfully completed his certification in 1989.  He owns and operates Hawkeye Dental Studio of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and specializes in aesthetic removable, laser assembled titanium bars and attachments for removable partial denture/fixed partial denture combination cases.
He is an active member of the TCKC study club of  West Des Moines, IA, Mid-west prosthetic study club, ICOI, NADL, and the Iowa Dental Laboratory Association.  He has recently had articles accepted to be published in the JDT and other international dental technology journals.

Robert L. Schneider, DDS, MS

Dr. Schneider works at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Institute of Hospital Dentistry, Division of Maxillofacial Prosthodontics and holds the rank of Professor, where he has a full time private practice treating acquired and congenital oral facial defects, trauma rehabilitation and dental implant restorations. He received his DDS from the University of Southern California in 1976 and practiced general dentistry in Arizona for five years before earning his MS and certificate in prosthodontics from the University of Iowa in 1983. He has been a board certified prosthodontist since 1987.He has published extensively in the peer reviewed prosthodontic literature and is very active in many prosthodontic and dental laboratory organizations. He has been a section editor for the Journal of Prosthodontics and reviewer for many other journals. Additionally he lectures nationally and internationally on many subjects addressing the clinical and laboratory phases of fixed, removable and implant prosthodontics. He has been a Trustee of the National Board for Certification in dental laboratory technology. Dr. Schneider is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, Fellow in the American College of Prosthodontists, Past President of the American Prosthodontic Society (APS) and also served for several years as the Executive Director of the APS. He was Director of the Midwest Prosthetic Study Club for 15 years and has over thirty-five years experience as a dental technician. He is also a Fellow in the International Team for Implantology and the Academy of Osseointegration. He has been named to the “Best of the US Prosthodontists” listing for several years.

George McIntosh

George currently is employed with Dentsply Prosthetics as a Technical Specialist. He has 40 years of diverse, experience in the dental profession. He is a graduate of the, U.S.Navy, Class “A” Dental Technician School. George holds an A.A.S. degree in Dental Laboratory Technology and is a C.D.T. He has worked as a dental assistant, dental hygienist, in dental sales and for 35 years as a dental lab technician. He has worked in academic, military, commercial and in house laboratories, in both same day denture facilities as well as a high end prosthetic practice. George also owned and operated a laboratory specializing in full and cast partial dentures. He has managed and worked in all aspects of full and partial denture departments in both large and small commercial, dental labs.

George S. Koskinas  CDT

George received his A.A.S. degree in Dental Laboratory Technology from Durham Technical Institute in 1986. After receiving practical experience in two small commercial laboratories in Raleigh and Charlotte, he opened and operated “The Dental Studio”, an in-house dental laboratory in a private practice in Charlotte, NC for over 16 years, focusing on fixed, all ceramic and implant restorations. George has completed over 750 hours of continuing education including professional training in surgical, restorative and laboratory aspects of implant dentistry. Currently he is a Senior Territory Manager and Field Trainer for the Straumann Dental Implant Company.

Tab Burkhalter, JD, CPA, MBA

Tab received his Juris Doctor from University of Tennessee-Knoxville and a Masters in Business Administration, International Management from University of Tennessee-Knoxville.  He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Tennessee and a member of the AICPA, TSCPA, American Bar Association and Tennessee Bar Association. He is the Owner of Burkhalter Nelson, PC, a regional Certified Public Accounting Firm, and Senior Partner of the Legal Firm of Burkhalter & Moser, PC.  He is Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Service Solutions, Inc, a business development corporation. He serves on the Board of Directors of Tennessee Therapy Solutions, Inc., a mental behavioral and speech therapy organization, and on the Board for American Choice Products, Inc. He has served as an expert witness for business valuation cases and has been a guest speaker on taxes and tax planning for local chambers of commerce and regional radio programs. Has served as both legal counsel and chief financial officer for Marketing and Aviation firms in the Tennessee and Atlanta markets.   He actively serves on the Board of Directors for 2 local not-for-profit organizations, including the United Way of Blount County.

Mike Byczynski, CDT, AAS

Mike Byczynski, Technologist, CDT, A.A.S., BDDS Partner, graduated from the Community College of the Air Force with an Associates of Applied Sciences in Dental Laboratory Technology. In the past 24 years he has worked in all facets of dental laboratory technology. In the last 20 years he has worked as a Ceramist and 9 of those of as owner of EPIC Dental Ceramics. Continuing education is very important to him and he continually updates his training. He is a Certified Dental Technician, and has studied ceramics with Maurice King, Aki Yoshida, Naoki Hayashi, and the Oral Design Group. Recently Mike was invited to be apart of the Art Oral Group headed by Dr. Ed Mclaren and Klaus Muterthies. In addition, he believes in Team Dentistry and served as a Delegate for the Colorado Dental Association's (CDA) House of Delegates in 2007 (one of only two non-dentist delegates), was a Director for the Colorado Dental Laboratory Association, and is a CDA Allied Dental Team Member. His specialties are all-ceramic and large anterior cases, he also enjoys full mouth reconstructions. In addition, while in the US Air Force he set up the first Dental Treatment Room in a dental lab which is now a staple in the US Air Force and assisted for Dr. Robert Rudd learning the clinical side of dental treatment. Mike believes consistency in quality, customer service, and on time delivery are the cornerstones of success in the dental laboratory business. He's been a lab tech for twenty years plus in the Denver metro area working in small and large labs, as a ceramist, a manager, and as an owner he knows the challenges of the Dental Laboratory industry. Mike has dedicated his life to the dental field and knows the local and national industry.

Kris E. Schermerhorn, CDT

Kris has been active in the dental Laboratory business for more then 20 Years.  While still in his youth, he worked for his father, owner and founder of Northern Virginia Dental Lab.  This experience provided Kris with invaluable expertise in performing dental laboratory procedures.

Kris attended J. Sergeant Reynolds College, and in 1994 graduated Summa Cum Laude with an Associate Degree in Applied Science with a major in Dental Laboratory Technology.  After graduation, he became manager of the Northern Virginia Dental Lab.

In 1996, Kris began working with acetal resins and other thermoplastic dental materials.  In 2000, he became a consultant to CDM Dental, performing research and development testing, as well as training.  Kris worked extensively developing new materials, instruments and techniques for removable prosthodontics.  As a result of that work, Kris now holds several patents in the dental industry and has more patents pending.  In 2007 he earned the NADL’s Harry Hagman Inventor of the year award.  His ideas have led to products that were voted best new product by the readers of LMT in 2005 and again in 2007.  Kris is also a mentor and teacher.  Kris has lectured at study clubs, state level, national and international dental meetings.  In addition to North America, he has traveled and taught in Europe, the Pacific Rim countries and is a highly sought after speaker.  His love for teaching is obvious to all who know him.  Kris is dedicated to dentistry and continuously looks for new and unique solutions to problems.  He is determined to make dentistry better for dentists, technicians, and mostly importantly for patients.
